Private Boat Tour on Lake Mälaren – Slow Travel with Classic Swedish Cabin Boat
A private boat tour on Lake Mälaren where Stockholm is experienced from the water at a leisurely pace aboard a classic cabin boat, with guided commentary,...
The Experience
This private boat tour in Stockholm is conducted with a smaller cabin boat together with a guide and skipper. The experience begins at a quiet quay in central Stockholm where you meet your guide at the boat.
Onboard amenities include a toilet, refrigerator, and small galley, creating a stable and comfortable environment during the journey. The tour leaves the city's central waters and moves out through Lake Mälaren's waterways, where the city's silhouette gradually transitions into greener and more open landscapes.
During the journey, the guide introduces Stockholm's origins, the significance of the islands, and how Mälaren has functioned as a central transport route in Sweden's history. The experience provides a clear understanding of how city and water are interconnected.
The route continues through calmer waterways where the pace slows and nature becomes more present. During the tour, a planned stop is made with the opportunity to swim from the boat or from a dock, depending on weather and season.
Onboard, a classic Swedish fika is served with coffee or tea and something sweet. The fika creates a pause in the journey and enhances the experience of being on the water at a slower pace.
Towards the end of the tour, the boat returns to central Stockholm. The experience concludes at the same quay where the tour began, with a comprehensive understanding of Stockholm from the water, in a private and guided format.
Onboard awaits a classic smaller cabin boat in the style of traditional leisure boats that have long characterized life on Lake Mälaren.
The boat is equipped with amenities such as toilet, refrigerator, and a small galley.
When you leave the quay, Stockholm opens up from a different perspective. The journey goes through Lake Mälaren's waterways where the city's silhouette gradually transitions into greener landscapes and calmer waters.
During the journey, the guide tells about the city's origins, about the islands that shaped Stockholm, and how Mälaren has historically been one of Sweden's most important transport routes.
The journey continues through areas where nature comes closer and the pace slows down.
During the tour, a stop is made where there is an opportunity to swim directly from the boat or from a small dock, depending on weather and season.
Onboard, a classic Swedish fika is also served with coffee or tea and something sweet.
Towards the end of the tour, the boat slowly returns to the city again before the tour ends at the same quay where the journey began.

Your Guide

Annika Bernholm
My guiding style is personal and tailored to participants and any specific wishes, as much as possible. The tours are inclusive and I encourage dialogue and questions, rather than a lecturing style. My guiding is professional, with a twinkle in the eye, and based on facts presented with warmth and joy. My goal with each tour is that participants' expectations of their visit to Stockholm and Sweden are both met and exceeded.
